Environmental Activities

Protecting the environment is an important activity of the entire NTT Group

As our business involves the construction and maintenance of submarine cables, we have made it our basic policy to protect the ocean environment in ways that prevent ocean pollution, that preserve the ocean environment, and that ensure appropriate measures for the disposal of waste materials. As we are now performing various on-shore operations, the philosophy has been expanded to include the conservation of resources and energy and the promotion of a more natural envitoment..

In 2001, we obtained certification for ISO14001, and we are conducting our activities based on our Environment Policy with consideration given to preserving the earth's environment in an active way. We are keenly aware of the impact to the environment as a result of our business activities.

Regarding the ISO14001Certification. (ISO for Environment)

Under the basic philosophy set out under the "Earth Environment Charter for the NTT Group," ISO14001 Certification was obtained on June 20, 2001, This was awarded as a result of NTT reducing the impact to the environment, of submarine cable construction work and for the preservation of the Earth's environment. Certification has been renewed three times with the first renewal taking place in 2004, the second renewal in 2007 and the third renewal on August 22, 2010.

Environmental Policy

Basic Philosophy
Based on the "Earth Environment Charter for the NTT Group," we, as an organization involved in the construction and maintenance of submarine cables and the operation of vessels, fully acknowledge the impact of our business activities on the environment. We actively work under the following basic policies, giving consideration to the preservation of the Earth's environment.

    Basic Policy
  • Constantly improve the environment management system, and pre-empt pollution to the ocean.
  • Fulfill our corporate responsibility by observing the rules and regulations that concern the preservation of the environment and other requirements that are agreed upon by the organization.
  • Establish environmental objectives and goals, and review them regularly.
  • Promote recycling, and reduce waste materials.
  • Promote the conservation of resources, energy and the purchase of green products.
  • Promote greening activities at both the Yokohama and Nagasaki Offices.
  • The Environment Policy is made known to all the employees and affiliated companies, as well as being made public.
